โIt is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David Roach. After a courageous battle with cancer, David passed away peacefully last night at home, in the loving arms of his wife.He was a gifted artist, performer, songwriter, and singerโbut above all, a devoted father, husband, and brother. Our thoughts are with the entire Roach family and everyone who loved him.

David Roach was an American rock vocalist best known as the charismatic frontman of the Los Angelesโbased hard rock band Junkyard. Born in 1960, Roach found his musical calling in the gritty yet melodic world of lateโ1980s L.A. rock. With Junkyard, he helped define an era of unapologetic swagger and blueโcollar attitude, delivering raw and soulful vocals that earned the band a dedicated cult following.
Junkyard formed in the midโ1980s and quickly gained traction thanks to their highโenergy live shows and infectious blend of hard rock, punk attitude, and classic blues roots. Roachโs commanding stage presence and earthy voice elevated songs like โHollywoodโ and โStill Standing,โ propelling the band onto radio playlists, MTV, and major tours. Their selfโtitled debut album (1989) and followโup Sixes, Sevens & Nines (1991) anchored their reputation, though creative differences and lineup changes later cooled their commercial momentum.
Outside of Junkyard, Roach pursued side projects and collaborations, exploring rootsier and Americanaโtinged styles that showcased his broad musical range. Always respected by fellow musicians, he remained engaged with the rock community even during breaks in the bandโs activity. Throughout his career, he was known for his authenticity and dedication, both onstage and off.
In 2025 Junkyard announced that Roach had been diagnosed with aggressive squamous cell carcinoma and his friends set up a GoFundMe to help cover expenses.
