Former supermodel Pamela Anderson knew exactly what she was doing when she rocked up to Paris Fashion Week last year donning a bare-faced look. And since first setting tongues wagging over the celebrity rarity, the 57-year-old has lifted the lid on what spurred her decision to go make-up free, disclosing a pretty unexpected side effect of the move.

Ever since Netflix dropped a tell-all documentary series about the life and loves of US icon Pamela, the ex-cover girl’s career has seemingly relaunched itself. As as such, the mother-of-two – who first came to public prominence in 1990 after being selected as a ‘Playboy Playmate of the Month’ – is now a regular attendee at high-profile events, including big-name interviews, A-list red carpet premiers and uber-chic fashion shows.
It is at these socialite-littered soirees, that the former Baywatch actress has been showing off her natural beauty, often being papped a picture of soft-glam. And this week, Pamela – who was previously recognised for her iconic threadbare black eyebrows, darkly-lined lips and smokey-eye – has once again spoken freely of her decision to ditch cosmetics, claiming the controversial decision has inadvertently tempted a few more followers into her fan-base.
The on-screen star also told the outlet that her decision to first go make-up free was brought on by hope for an easy life. ‘It just happened to be this silly thing,’ she said.
‘I was appreciating it as this girl who lives on Vancouver Island that got plopped into these glamorous clothes. I felt like this little freckle-faced kid with a big, beautiful Vivienne Westwood hat on.’
Pamela star previously spoke to ELLE about another reason she stopped wearing makeup, attributing the decision to the fact that her friend and makeup artist, Alexis Vogel passed away from breast cancer in 2019. ‘She was the best. And since then, I just felt, without Alexis, it’s just better for me not to wear makeup,’ she said.
Speaking to People, the blonde beauty added that she never imagined how much attention she would get simply for ditching the cosmetics. ‘I call it Life-ing, not aging,’ she said. ‘Chasing youth is futile. All we can do is embrace who we are at the moment we are in, and be okay with where our feet stand right now. I can just be me. It’s very freeing to be comfortable in your own skin.’
Pamela continued: ‘I did notice that there were all these people doing big makeup looks, and it’s just like me to go against the grain and do the opposite of what everyone’s doing.’
I mean, who really needs makeup when you’re Pamela Anderson, right? Not all of us are that lucky, but there’s definitely something to be said for letting your natural beauty shine through. It’s refreshing to see someone embracing who they are, wrinkles, freckles, and all.
