Kamala Harris Says It’s ‘Not the 1950s Anymore’ and That Not All Women Are ‘Aspiring to Be Humble’

Kamala Harris Shares Thoughts on Modern Family and Women’s Aspirations

In a heartfelt conversation with podcast host Alex Cooper on ‘Call Her Daddy’, Vice President Kamala Harris responded to comments made by Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Sanders had implied Harris lacked humility because she does not have biological children.

In the interview, Harris, aged 59, countered these remarks by expressing that many women today aren’t seeking humility in the way others might expect. She emphasized that many women have fulfilling and loving families, whether biologically linked or not.

“There are numerous women who aren’t striving to be humble,” she stated. “A lot have love, family, and children in their lives, regardless of the form that takes.”

Harris shared insights into her own family life with her husband, Doug Emhoff, highlighting how they cherish both familial connections ‘by blood’ and ‘by love’.

“Our family is a blessing,” she added. “I am ‘Mamala’ to two wonderful children, Cole and Ella, and their presence enriches my life incredibly.”

She also spoke fondly of her relationship with Doug’s ex-wife, Kerstin Emhoff, expressing the deep love she holds for her stepchildren, Cole and Ella.

Recalling the early days of dating Doug, Harris noted her cautious approach to meeting his children. She stressed the importance of ensuring their relationship was serious before engaging with the kids to avoid disrupting their lives.

“I wanted to be sure our relationship was lasting before forming a bond with the children,” she explained. “Now, they are a vital part of my life.”

Harris reflected on evolving family structures, affirming that “it’s not the 1950s anymore,” and people increasingly understand the diverse forms family can take.

Governor Sanders addressed Harris’s remarks, clarifying in a statement that she would never criticize a woman for not having children. However, she suggested Harris’s lack of humility was evident in her political approach.

“Harris doesn’t believe our leaders should be humble,” Sanders asserted. “Her belief that she can single-handedly solve national issues is reflective of her views.”
