Former President George W. Bush has finally shared his thoughts on the 2024 presidential election.

The 43rd president faced substantial criticism as the election drew near due to his prolonged silence during the campaign period.

It wasn’t until Wednesday at 11 a.m. that Bush publicly addressed the highly anticipated election.

He issued a statement saying, “I congratulate President Trump on his election as the 47th President of the United States of America, as well as Vice President-elect JD Vance and their families.”

At 78 years of age, Bush also expressed his gratitude for the services of President Biden and Vice President Harris, before commending the impressive voter turnout at the polling stations.

He commented, “Laura and I are thankful to the election officials, poll workers, and volunteers who managed a free and fair election. We join our fellow-Americans in hoping for our new leaders’ success at all levels of government. May God continue to bless our wonderful country.”

Despite Bush’s decision to disable comments on his Instagram post, many reactions poured in on the social platform X. Reactions were varied, with some commending him for staying impartial, while others criticized his silence.

A former supporter voiced, “I can’t believe I voted for you twice. You remained silent as chaos unfolded. Shame on you!”

Another perspective acknowledged, “While I have my differences with you, this was a dignified move. You stayed neutral and then extended congratulations. Thank you.”

A more succinct comment read, “Go away.”
