Donald Trump Reacts to Nobel Peace Prize Announcement

Donald Trump’s Response to Nobel Peace Prize Outcome

Former President Donald Trump has expressed his feelings upon not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize this year.

On October 10th, Venezuelan activist Marรญa Corina Machado was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize. She was acknowledged for her steadfast efforts in advocating for democratic rights in Venezuela, striving for a peaceful and fair transition from dictatorship to democracy.

The Nobel Committee highlighted Machado’s role as a beacon of democracy in an increasingly challenging environment. She was described as an extraordinary example of courage in Latin America today.

Through a statement, the Nobel Committee emphasized that โ€œthis is precisely what lies at the heart of democracy, our shared willingness to defend the principles of popular rule, even though we disagree. At a time when democracy is under threat, it is more important than ever to defend this common ground.โ€

However, Trump chose to break his silence about not receiving the accolade through a post on his platform, Truth Social, and involved his associate, Vladimir Putin. Trump reshared a video of the Russian president discussing the Nobel Prize, insisting that โ€œthey have given the prizes to underserving people.โ€

In a video message, Putin articulated: โ€œThese choices hurt the awardโ€™s reputation. Someone shows up. Boom. For what? Did nothing. Thatโ€™s how it works. The prize has lost credibility.โ€

Trump concurred by posting โ€œThank you to President Putinโ€ accompanying the video.

The moment their posts came out:

โ€œThank you to President Putin!โ€

After the award was announced, Jรธrgen Watne Frydnes, head of the Nobel Peace Committee, was confronted with questions about any external influence, particularly concerning Trumpโ€™s potential candidacy. Frydnes explained that throughout their extensive history, they have encountered various campaigns and media attention but rely solely on the foundational principles set by Alfred Nobel. They receive numerous insights each year from individuals proposing diverse paths to peace, but their decisions are independent and rooted in actual accomplishments.

The Nobel Peace Prize, conceived by Alfred Nobel, was first awarded in 1901. It stands as one of the five prestigious categories that acknowledge significant contributions to humanity, including Peace, Physics, Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine, and Literature.

This year, there were strong nominations for Trump, reflecting his international diplomatic activities. Cambodia suggested Trumpโ€™s role in restoring peace and stability on the Thailand-Cambodia border as worthy of the prize.

In addition, Pakistan nominated Trump for his efforts in trying to resolve the 2025 India-Pakistan conflict. His approach emphasized dialogue and backchannel communication, focusing on restraint and avoiding escalation despite Indiaโ€™s preference for internal solutions.

Israel acknowledged Trumpโ€™s pursuit of peace in the Middle East, praising his involvement in the Abraham Accords and efforts to mediate ceasefires and hostages releases in Gaza.

Throughout his time in office, Trump himself highlighted his contributions to peace. He claimed to have resolved multiple conflicts, stating he ended six wars and settled all involved parties without any traditional ceasefires. In later remarks, he raised this to seven conflicts.

Yet, despite his assertions, this yearโ€™s Peace Prize was not part of Trumpโ€™s accomplishments.
