Barbra Streisand says she ‘can’t live in this country’ if Donald Trump wins 2024 presidential election

After coldly serenading former president Donald Trump in her song โ€œDonโ€™t Lie to Me,โ€ Barbra Streisand is once again slamming the โ€œtyrant,โ€ declaring that if the Republican front-runner for 2024 is re-elected, she’s packing her bags and leaving the United States.

Calling the four-times-indicted Trump โ€œso stupidโ€ and โ€œill-informed,โ€ the singer and actor recently shared with Stephen Colbert, โ€œI canโ€™t live in this country if he becomes president.โ€

But letโ€™s not pretend this is the first time sheโ€™s made such a dramatic declaration. Nor is she the only celebrity who vowed to flee to Canada, Europe, or even Jupiter after Trump won in 2016.

At 81, the legendary Barbra Streisand quipped, โ€œYes, Mr. Trump, letโ€™s make America great again. But first, get one thing straight: America was great โ€“ before you were elected.โ€

Streisand, a long-time Democratic supporter and fundraiser, has never been shy about expressing her dislike of the former president, branding him โ€œthe Liar in Chief, the Groper in Chief.โ€

Back in 2018, the EGOT winner (thatโ€™s Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony) released her 36th album, โ€œWalls,โ€ driven by her frustration with the reality show star-turned-president.

Speaking with the Associated Press about the album, she said, โ€œI wanted to talk about the things that were making me feel so sad, heartbroken.โ€ Streisand continued, โ€œI just canโ€™t stand whatโ€™s going on. His assault on our democracy, our institutions, our founders โ€“ I think weโ€™re in a fightโ€ฆ Weโ€™re in a war for the soul of America.โ€

The Grammy-nominated album โ€“ a musical homage to Trumpโ€™s tyranny โ€“ includes tracks like โ€œDonโ€™t Lie to Me,โ€ which Streisand explains was inspired by the constant barrage of news that made her โ€œsick, listening to lies, listening to things that are such craziness.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t stand being lied to, and I donโ€™t think the country should be lied to either.โ€ She then quipped, โ€œAnd I just couldnโ€™t comprehend how he could tell all these lies with absolutely no guilt (clearly heโ€™s not Jewish.)โ€

โ€˜Art is the enemy of tyrantsโ€™

Explaining why she feels compelled to be politically involved, Streisand opens up about the tension between politicians and artists in her 2023 memoir, โ€œMy Name is Barbra.โ€

โ€œWhy does it make so many people angry when artists speak out?โ€ Babs asks. โ€œArtists can serve as โ€˜a countryโ€™s conscience.โ€™ Their work gives us a reflection of the times, and sometimes they challenge us to see what others would prefer to ignore. They can give voice to the voiceless by speaking up when no one else will.โ€

She adds, โ€œThatโ€™s why art is the enemy of tyrants and dictators.โ€

Unfortunately, lending her powerful voice didnโ€™t sway the voting population.

โ€˜Planetโ€™s gone bonkersโ€™

Ahead of the 2016 elections, the Prince of Tides star told the Australian version of 60 Minutes, โ€œHe has no facts. I donโ€™t know, I canโ€™t believe it. Iโ€™m either coming to your country [Australia], if youโ€™ll let me in, or Canada.โ€

But Streisand wasnโ€™t the only A-list celebrity who claimed they would leave the U.S. if Trump took office.

The Wrap reported that comedian George Lopez joked heโ€™d go back to Mexico: โ€œIf [Trump] wins, he wonโ€™t have to worry about immigration, weโ€™ll all go back.โ€

Chelsea Handler, who voiced her determination to leave, reversed her decision the day after Trumpโ€™s victory over Democrat Hillary Clinton. โ€œYesterday, my staff reminded me that platforms and voices like mine are needed more than ever; leaving the country is quitting.โ€

Meanwhile, other celebrities were more creative with their escape plans.

Comedian and talk show host Jon Stewart said, โ€œI would consider getting in a rocket and going to another planet, because clearly this planetโ€™s gone bonkers.โ€

@gabeAlfassy IF HE WERE TO BE ELECTED,IM MOVING TO JUPITER

And Cher tweeted, โ€œIF HE WERE TO BE ELECTED, IM MOVING TO JUPITER.โ€

Post Trump

After spending โ€œfour years in a dark hole,โ€ the star of 1983โ€™s Yentl told People of President Joe Biden, โ€œthe country is certainly headed in the right direction.โ€ In a 2021 interview, she said, โ€œI love Biden. I love his compassion, his honesty, his integrity, his love of facts, not fiction.โ€

โ€œSince 2016, weโ€™ve been dragged down into the mud of Trumpโ€™s swamp. He has demolished our standing in the world with his laughable boasts and breathtaking ignorance,โ€ she wrote in an essay for Variety.

โ€˜Restore nobility of truthโ€™

Now, Streisand is voicing her concerns over the upcoming elections and Trump as the clear Republican frontrunner.

Appearing on an episode of The Late Show, the legendary singer and actor told host Stephen Colbert that she wonโ€™t tolerate living in a country ruled by the man she earlier called โ€œso stupidโ€ and โ€œso ill-informed.โ€

โ€œI canโ€™t live in this country if he becomes president,โ€ Streisand said, adding that if she relocates, sheโ€™ll probably head to England because โ€œI like England.โ€

โ€œTrump is a man who has never once taken responsibility for his actions, preferring to blame others when heโ€™s at fault. Even impeachment hasnโ€™t humbled him, because thanks to his Republican enablers, he has escaped accountability once again,โ€ she writes.

โ€œWe need a new America, without pollution, without obscenities, without insults, without revenge. We need to restore the nobility of truthโ€ฆ and only then will America be great again.โ€

If Streisand decides Canada is her new potential home, sheโ€™ll have to act quickly, as the Republicans are also calling to build a wall along the Canadian border.
