The culinary world is mourning the loss of a beloved chef, Naomi Pomeroy. The renowned Top Chef star, who went missing after a tubing mishap, was found lifeless in a river, bringing the search to a sad conclusion.
According to reports, Naomi’s body was discovered on July 17, a few days after she had disappeared following an unfortunate incident during tubing. The Portland chef was well-known for her contributions to the culinary industry.
The Benton County Sheriff’s Office delivered the devastating news that Naomi had drowned. During their investigation, it was revealed that Naomi, her husband Kyle Linden Webster, and a friend had become entangled while using connected tubes and a paddleboard.
According to the report, tragedy struck when Naomi was pulled underwater after they hit an exposed snag, becoming trapped due to the paddleboard leash.
The Corvallis Fire Department was able to rescue her husband and friend at the riverbank, but desperate efforts to locate Naomi led to a lengthy search.
On July 17, the sheriff’s office announced that her body had been found about half a mile upstream of Hyak Park, between the towns of Corvallis and Albany.
Reports shared that her body was spotted by people canoeing the river, bringing a heartbreaking end to the community’s worry and hope.
Naomi, 49, was a self-taught chef who made waves in the culinary scene after launching the esteemed Portland restaurant Beast in 2007.
Her talent brought her to the spotlight on shows like Iron Chef and Top Chef Masters. Naomi also graced the judge’s panel on Top Chef in seasons 10, 15, and 18, sharing her expertise with contestants.
The Bravo and Top Chef network expressed their sorrow on X, stating: “The Bravo and Top Chef family send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Chef Naomi Pomeroy. Naomi was a powerhouse chef who made an indelible mark on the culinary industry.”
