Story 1:
My daughter-in-law is proud of her carrot cake because it is her “specialty.” It always has a bitter taste, but my kid advises me not to say anything and to be polite. I froze the other day when I overheard him whispering to her, “Mom has begun to suspect that you are adding something to the cake.” “Can’t you make the taste less obvious?”
That day, I sneaked into their kitchen when no one was present. I opened the wooden cabinet and was horrified to discover a box of my depression medications next to a mill and pestle. I was diagnosed with depression six years ago, after my spouse passed away, and my doctor recommended those medications.
I took them for a time before stopping. My son insisted I take them, but I refused. So, I discovered that this is how they give me my medications, by mixing them into my slice with the extra buttercream she sprinkles on top. They’ve also been sneaking them into my other meals, albeit the flavor is less noticeable in savory items.
When I questioned my son, he said that he is doing it for my sake and wants me to feel better. Even while I’m grateful that he cares about my well-being, I can’t help but feel lied to.
Story 2:

I joined him, but we were like Jekyll and Hyde. He ridiculed me, talked about me behind my back, made me a scapegoat for his problems with the rest of the staff, and finally ruined my reputation and career.
It took four years of hard labor to restore my reputation. I still don’t know why that happened. It was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had.

My good friend and I signed a 10-month lease for an apartment. Two weeks later, she chose to leave and live with someone else, giving me no advance notice. She just called to tell me she was going, even though I hadn’t moved in yet.
To finance the rent, I needed to locate a new roommate soon. If she had been a stranger, it might not have mattered as much, but we had been friends for years, and her complete lack of sorrow made me feel completely useless.
