We are deeply saddened to report the sudden death of musician Chuck Morris and his son Charley. After nearly a month of searching, their bodies were found in a lake in Arkansas. Chuck Morris, 47, was a beloved drummer for the electronic band Lotus, while Charley, 20, was a student at Ohio Wesleyan University.

On March 16, the Morris family went on a kayaking excursion at Beaver Lake during spring break, but tragically, Chuck and Charley went missing and were not seen since. Five days later, the search turned into a recovery effort, and our hopes for a miracle faded.

The Benton County Sheriff’s Office, along with numerous volunteers, devoted 24 days to the search, putting in countless hours and effort. Finally, this past weekend, their remains were found in the vicinity of Beaver Lake’s Lost Bridge Village. Sheriff Shawn Holloway expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in the search and recovery, acknowledging their invaluable contributions.

The Morris family, in a separate statement on their GoFundMe page, disclosed that Charley’s cause of death was determined to be drowning, while the senior Morris’s cause of death remains unknown. Our hearts go out to the family as they navigate this difficult time, and we extend our condolences for their unimaginable loss.

Despite the pain and grief, the band Lotus, along with the Morris family, aims to honor the lives of Chuck and Charley. On April 21 and 22, two shows will be held at Denver’s Fillmore Auditorium, dedicated to their memory. Additionally, forthcoming performances in Port Chester, New York, and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, will also contribute to benefiting the family.

Lotus, a highly regarded “jamtronica” band, was founded in 1998 and gained popularity over the past 25 years. With 13 studio albums and live recordings, their music has touched the hearts of many. Their most recent album, “Bloom & Recede,” was released last year, showcasing their talent and passion.

Let us come together as a community to remember Chuck Morris and Charley, to celebrate their lives and the impact they had on so many people. Their legacy will live on through their music and the cherished memories they leave behind.
