Michelle Obama herself described her mother as a rock, always there for her no matter the circumstances. Maria’s steady presence brought comfort and stability to their entire family.
During the Obama administration, Maria Robinson was a familiar face in the White House. Although she didn’t seek the spotlight, she attended holiday events and concerts in the East Room while also enjoying quality time with her granddaughters, Sasha and Malia.

Her priorities were clear, and rather than seeking out celebrities, she only requested to meet one person: the Pope.
Many people from all walks of life have paid tribute to Maria Robinson, recognizing her importance in the Obama family’s life. Tennis legend Billie Jean King, who won 39 Grand Slam titles, expressed her condolences and shared a personal connection with Maria from their time spent together at the US Open in 2013.
Another touching tribute came from Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the Broadway sensation “Hamilton.” Miranda recalled his nerves before performing at the White House in 2009, but it was Maria’s encouraging smile that gave him the strength to step onto the stage. He expressed his deepest sympathies to the Obama family and assured them of his prayers.
