Eight puppies rescued after being abandoned in crate on 100-degree day

Summer is here, and many of us are feeling the rising temperatures. Many parts of the US experienced a severe heat wave this past week.

But if you thought you were hot in this weather, imagine being one of these puppies, abandoned in a crate in a 100-degree day.

While the situation is heartbreaking, the pups are now safe thanks to the quick thinking of a Good Samaritan.

According to a Facebook post from the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office, in Fort Worth, Texas, a litter of 8 puppies were left in a field inside a carrier.

Temperatures were reportedly 100 degrees, and the dogs were left with no water. Thankfully, a Good Samaritan found them in time, and Forth Worth Animal Control arrived on the scene to get the pups to safety.

The dogs will reportedly be put up for adoption this week, pending medical exams.

The department did not go into detail about their health status, though it seems likely they struggled in the severe heat: a photo shows one of the puppies on its side, while an officer applies water to cool the dog down:

It’s not clear who abandoned the pups, and the post did not indicate whether any investigation was ongoing.

People online were outraged by the incident, but thanked the person who found them for doing the right thing to save their lives.

“The cruelty of some people. Unbelievable. I’m glad someone found them,” one comment reads.

“It’s a very cold hearted person that will do this to a helpless small animal,” another wrote.

“Special place for people like that! Glad someone found them.”

Dogs are very susceptible to heat stroke, and with the severe weather many people have been experiencing it’s more important than ever to be vigilant about dogs left in the heat.

Summer has barely begun and there have already been many incidents of dogs being left in hot vehicles, including an incident at Disney Springs that resulted in one dog’s death and a dog who was rescued from a dangerously hot U-Haul truck parked at the beach.

It’s unthinkable that anyone would abandon these pups in the middle of a field in such severe heat, but we’re glad they were saved and hope they all find homes soon!
