Sean Kingston, the well-known singer, was arrested in California on May 23 after authorities conducted a raid on his rented mansion in Florida.
Sean Kingston is currently facing 10 charges related to fraud and theft. This follows a dramatic raid on a South Florida mansion he was renting. His mother was also taken into custody during this operation.
According to documents released by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office and obtained by PEOPLE, the singer is facing a host of charges including one count of an organized scheme to defraud, four counts of criminal use of personal identification information, two counts of grand theft over $100,000, one count of grand theft over $20,000, and one count of fraud. Additionally, he is accused of violating his probation.
The allegations against Kingston, 34, mention that he, along with his mother Janice Turner, 61, swindled businesses including a jeweler and a car dealer for hundreds of thousands of dollars. Allegedly, Kingston stole nearly $500,000 in jewelry, $160,000 from an Escalade dealer, and $86,000 from a custom bed maker, among other claims.
Kingston was previously on probation for trafficking stolen property, a term which started two years ago. His mother, Turner, is also facing similar charges including organized defrauding and grand theft.
The complaint alleged that he breached his contract by failing to pay them as agreed after multiple attempts to collect payment in January. Per Ver Ver Entertainment, a judgment was entered against Kingston in 2015 after he obtained $356,000 in watches without paying for them. Additional judgments were entered in 2016 and 2022 when he allegedly acquired $301,500 in jewelry and luxury watches worth over $1 million without payment.
“I filed a lawsuit against Sean Kingston,” attorney Dennis Card told PEOPLE. “A detective in Broward County read my lawsuit and contacted me, and so we went down and gave, with my client, a recorded statement and an affidavit.”
He added that they’ve been “waiting on this raid for more than two months now.”
