It’s hard to believe that it’s already been 16 years since the world lost Steve Irwin.
Steve Irwin, the renowned zookeeper and wildlife enthusiast, changed the way people perceived dangerous animals. He was a trailblazer in his field, and his untimely death at the age of 44, while doing what he loved most, was a loss deeply felt by many.
Now, more than a decade later, his wife Terri Irwin has shared a touching and somewhat shocking confession that Steve once made to her.
In a recent interview on the Australian television series “Anh’s Brush With Fame”, Terri opened up about an unexpected revelation.
When asked about Steve’s premature passing, Terri revealed: “He never thought he’d have a long life. He always kind of had this sense his life would be cut short.”
Tragically, Steve’s intuition was correct. The beloved TV host was filming “Ocean’s Deadliest” in Queensland, Australia, when a stingray’s barb tragically took his life.
Terri recounted the moment she was informed of her husband’s death and how she was told to contact her zoo manager.
“I just remember this incredible sense of responsibility, this overwhelming grief, but I asked myself, ‘What do I do next?’ I gathered my thoughts, then had to go out to the car and tell Bindi and Robert … which was really hard.”
After the news of Steve’s passing broke, Terri was taken aback by the immense outpouring of support and condolences from people all over.
“No one would’ve been more surprised than Steve at the outpouring of grief and love,” she mentioned.
“Famous wasn’t a word that Steve ever used for himself. I loved that about him; he was never pretentious, never boasted, and everything we made went back into wildlife conservation. I’m really proud of that.”
The news of Steve’s death quickly spread worldwide, and millions mourned the loss of a national treasure. Steve was known for his passionate commitment to animal education and awareness.
The world will continue to turn, but the memory of Steve Irwin will remain in our hearts.
