On the popular television show Duck Dynasty, the beloved character Uncle Si Robertson is preparing for lung surgery after struggling with health issues for the past year and a half.
Now 74 years old, Uncle Si is maintaining a positive outlook on his upcoming treatment. He confidently asserts that he will soon be back to his usual, chatty self once the procedure is over.
Si Robertson has revealed multiple times on the podcast Duck Call Room that his smoking habits have at least partially contributed to his current lung health and breathing problems.
Alongside these admissions, Uncle Si also suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which made his early 2021 COVID-19 diagnosis particularly concerning.
After some time had passed, he confessed that he had been worried he might not be able to overcome COVID-19. His family and the friends who help him with his podcast reminded him that he didn’t always take advantage of the opportunities to aid his own recovery.
In the segment entitled “Uncle Si’s COVID-19 Story,” the four men reminisce about how Si initially resisted going to the hospital and, after being allowed to return home several days later, refused to take his medication. This anecdote is shared within the broader context of the COVID-19 pandemic experience.
Eventually, Si gave in and started following the medical advice, which led to an overall improvement in his health. In May 2022, he began explaining the necessity of his upcoming lung surgery.
In episode 146 of Duck Call Room, Si shares that while both of his lungs function properly when he inhales, one lung doesn’t work as it should when he exhales. This has led to the need for surgery to place a device in his lung to help it release the proper amount of air. This device will be installed in his underperforming lung.
With surgery just around the corner, Si commented, “It looks like I’m approved for lung surgery, but there are a few more steps we need to take first.” He humorously adds, “Then, I’ll be able to share even more stories, all guaranteed to be over ninety-five percent accurate!”
