Heartbroken Gary Sinise mourning sudden death of son, 33

The beloved actor from Forrest Gump, Gary Sinise, recently shared the devastating news of his son’s passing on both the Gary Sinise Foundation‘s website and his Instagram page, disclosing that his son, 33-year-old McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, succumbed to cancer.

Mac was initially diagnosed with a rare cancer type known as Chordoma in mid-2018. This diagnosis came just three months after his mother was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer. While his mother Moira received successful treatment, sadly, Mac’s health declined over time, complicating his mobility and overall health.

Gary expressed his immense grief for the loss of his loving son.

“Like any family experiencing such a loss, we are heartbroken and have been managing as best we can. As parents, it is so difficult losing a child. My heart goes out to all who have suffered a similar loss, and to anyone who has lost a loved one. We’ve all experienced it in some way. Over the years I have met so many families of our fallen heroes. It’s heartbreaking and just damn hard,” wrote the heartbroken actor.

“Our family’s cancer journey lasted for 5 ½ years, and it became increasingly challenging as time passed. While our hearts ache at missing him, we are comforted in knowing that Mac is no longer suffering, and we are inspired and moved by the courageous way he managed his illness. He fought bravely against a cancer that has no known cure, but he never quit trying,” he continued.

A number of celebrities posted messages of support for Gary and his family on Instagram.

Mac’s journey was also marked by his dedication to his passions; he worked at the Gary Sinise Foundation as an assistant manager of education and outreach, and passionately pursued music until his last days. He was an accomplished drummer and performed with his father in the Lt. Dan Band. Despite severe health challenges, including five spine surgeries and paralysis from the waist down, Mac’s spirit remained unbroken; he completed an album titled Resurrection & Revival shortly before he passed away.

Mac studied songwriting and composition at the University of Southern California, graduating with accolades. His commitment to his craft was evident until the end.

Gary said that the family is ensuring Mac’s album, Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival, is released and pressed on vinyl.

Mac was laid to rest on January 5. We express our deepest condolences to Gary Sinise and his family during this painful time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.
