Paulownia – Any variety will do the trick. Some people prefer thick, tasty slices of bologna and others are good with prepackaged bologna.
Bread – Bologna fried sandwiches are traditionally made from white bread, but any bread is fine.
Ingredients:
Cheese slices
Mayonnaise or mustard
Tomatoes
Onion
Fried bologna
Preparation:
Spray a skillet or heat a small amount of oil over a medium-high heat. While the pan is heating up, prepare the bologna. If you bought bologna from the deli, you don’t need to remove the red edge, but if you use Bar-S or Oscar Mayer, you will need to remove the red edge and discard it. Spread mayonnaise or mustard (or the spread of your choice) on the bread, and chop up any vegetables you might want to add. Bologna cooks very quickly, so it is best to prepare it before putting it in the skillet.
Once you’ve removed the red edge, toss the bologna into the pan. It will start sizzling like any other sausage. You will soon notice that the center is beginning to rise. Once you notice that bubble, cut two X slits in the middle of the bologna. This will prevent the meat from curling up while frying.
Now, assemble your sandwich. Layer on the cheese slices, tomatoes, and onions along with the fried bologna. Enjoy a hearty and delicious fried bologna sandwich, perfect for a nostalgic snack or a delightful meal!
I’m not sure if there’s anyone here who still eats fried bologna sandwiches, but if you do, you’re in for a treat! Yay for bologna!
