Shakira, the talented Colombian singer, recently appeared as a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon where she discussed her split from Gerard Piqué and how it led to her renewed focus on music. After 11 years together, Shakira and Piqué ended their relationship in 2022 amidst allegations of infidelity.

Although they were never legally married, they shared a life together in Barcelona, where Piqué played for the FC Barcelona football club, and raised their two sons, Milan and Sasha. However, now Shakira finds herself enjoying the single life and embracing her newfound freedom.

During her interview, Shakira shared that her split from Piqué allowed her to fully commit to her music career once again. She candidly expressed, “It was the husband-factor. Now I’m husband-less. Yeah, the husband was dragging me down. Now I’m free. Now I can actually work.” This liberation from her relationship has enabled her to focus on her craft and put together her first album in seven years, titled Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (translated as “Women No Longer Cry”).

In discussing the inspiration behind the album, Shakira revealed a powerful message. She stated, “It’s men’s turn now. For too long, we have been sent to cry with a script in our hands and without an end just because we are women. We have to conceal our pain in front of our kids, in front of society. We have to heal in a certain way. And I don’t think anyone is supposed to tell us how to heal. No one is supposed to tell a She-wolf how to lick her wounds.”

Creating Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran was a cathartic and transformative process for Shakira. She expressed that she was dealing with a lot while working on the album and described herself as being “raw.” Shakira further explained, “I felt at times with a knife between my teeth. I was picking up the pieces of myself from the floor. I was trying to rebuild myself. Music was the glue.” The album allowed her to channel her pain, anger, and frustration into creativity and resilience.

Shakira’s new album features a mix of new songs and previously-released hits, including collaborations with artists like Cardi B, Karol G, Ozuna, Rauw Alejandro, and Manuel Turizo. The record is a testament to the resilience of women, symbolized by the vinyl covers adorned with emerald, ruby, diamond, and sapphire. These precious stones serve as a metaphor for the strength and resilience that women possess when facing adversity.

Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran is out now and showcases Shakira’s evolution as an artist. With this album, she embraces her independence, celebrates the power of women, and shares her journey of healing and reinvention. This collection of songs is not only a musical masterpiece but a statement of empowerment for women everywhere.
