Every morning, people tune in to Live with Kelly and Mark, hosted by the real-life couple Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos. And on today’s episode, Kelly revealed that she couldn’t stop thinking about their 17-year-old dog, who had a “really bad day” recently.

Kelly and Mark are proud parents to Chewie, a 17-year-old rescue dog they adopted back in May 2007. According to CelebrityPets, this adorable pooch found her forever home with the couple.

During this morning’s show, Kelly expressed her concern for their beloved senior dog. She shared that Chewie had shown some worrying behaviors the day before. “Our dog Chewie, who is very, very old now, was really disoriented,” Kelly told Mark and the audience, as reported by Decider.

Mark, being the supportive husband he is, tried to assure Kelly that it was normal behavior for a dog of Chewie’s age. “She’s 17 years old, so she was just having a day,” he said. But Kelly couldn’t shake off her concern, mentioning that Chewie had a “really bad day.”

“I’m concerned,” she explained. “I don’t want to be here. I feel like I need to get home.” It’s heartwrenching to see a beloved pet struggle with the challenges of old age. Kelly shared, “She walked into a wall yesterday; she fell over. It’s just one of those things, you know when your dog starts to get old. It’s torture. It’s really torture. Because she can’t tell you.”

Kelly then described how Chewie communicates with her through her eyes. “She’s like, ‘Sigh. Can you believe this?’” she playfully expressed, mimicking her dog’s expressions. “I’m like, ‘I can’t!’”

Mark, still trying to ease Kelly’s worries, mentioned that Chewie seemed to be doing well after the disorienting incident. He shared, “She jumped up on the bed last night and was sleeping between us.” But Kelly couldn’t shake off the distraction. “I’m just… a little bit distracted this morning because my brain is back home,” she admitted.

Despite her concerns about Chewie, Kelly continued with the show as planned, putting on a brave face. Alongside Chewie, Kelly and Mark are also proud dog parents to Lena, a Maltese/Shih Tzu whom they adopted after featuring her on a segment of Live.

On March 23, in honor of National Puppy Day, Kelly shared a heartwarming tribute to both of her beloved fur babies on social media. This post resonated with many pet owners who have experienced the challenge of leaving their pets when they have to go to work but can’t help but worry about them.

Many pet owners have been in this situation — having to leave for work while their minds are still at home with their furry friends. It’s a tough spot to be in, and we hope Chewie hangs in there! Please share this story to show your support for Kelly and Chewie.
