Kquoella Lewis was at the store to purchase an iPad when she noticed the towering figure standing next to her. To her surprise, it was none other than basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal himself. Lewis struck up a conversation with O’Neal, discussing her interest in the latest Samsung Galaxy Z Flip phone.
Without hesitation, O’Neal turned to the store employee and instructed them to “Get two, one for me and one for her.” Each Galaxy Z Flip phone sells for about $1200, and O’Neal’s act of kindness left Lewis amazed. It was revealed that O’Neal himself is a fan of Apple products and had no intention of keeping the phone for himself.
This is not the first time Shaquille O’Neal has been seen performing acts of charity. Earlier this year, he heard about a young boy named Eric Kilburn Jr. who was struggling to find shoes in his size. Kilburn, who stands at 6 feet 10 inches tall and wears a men’s size 23 shoe, was facing numerous challenges due to his large feet.
The teenager’s parents had exhausted all efforts to find the right size shoes for him, even resorting to professionally resizing his size 22 shoes. Unfortunately, this led to discomfort and foot problems. In a desperate attempt to find suitable shoes, the family launched a GoFundMe campaign and the story went viral.
Professional footwear designers from top brands such as Under Armour, Puma, and CAT reached out to offer their assistance in designing custom shoes for Kilburn. However, there was one call that shocked the family beyond belief – a call from NBA hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal himself.
Having experienced a similar struggle in his youth, O’Neal’s team at Reebok sent Kilburn five different shoe designs. The gesture meant the world to the teenager, who was used to not having a choice when it came to his shoes.
Along with the shoes, O’Neal included a note that read, “Eric – Hoping these shoes we created for Shaq could be fit and offer you some relief. We have a few more things headed your way, but wanted to get these to you ASAP. Know that we’re here to help and behind you every step of the way!”
