It’s a heart-wrenching tale of cruelty and neglect, but there is a glimmer of hope for this poor pink kitten. He’s now in good hands, but his owner is facing charges of animal abuse.
A Disturbing Discovery
On December 12, a male kitten covered in hot pink fur was brought to a Portland animal shelter. The little feline was barely responsive, suffering from severe hypoglycemia and hypothermic shock.
Dangerous Cleaning Methods
It turns out that the kitten’s owner, a 39-year-old woman, had unknowingly used toxic household cleaners, such as Windex and rubbing alcohol, while trying to clean him. The chemicals soaked into the kitten’s delicate body, causing his temperature to drop.
Swift Action and Investigation
Thanks to the quick response of the Oregon Humane Society and the Portland Police Bureau, an animal abuse investigation was launched. The owner was arrested for her actions, although the pink dye on the kitten was deemed a coincidental circumstance and not related to the reported abuse.
Charges and Previous History
The owner now faces charges of Animal Abuse in the 2nd Degree. This incident is not her first encounter with the law, as she had a prior conviction for attempting to kidnap a child while wielding a machete.
Recovery and a New Name
Fortunately, the kitten, fittingly named Ken due to the remnants of his Barbie-like dye, is under the care of the Oregon Humane Society and is on the road to recovery. He is doing well and slowly shedding his pink fur as it gradually gets replaced by his natural fur.
A Long Road Ahead
As the legal case is still ongoing, Ken legally belongs to his owner and cannot be put up for adoption just yet. However, he is currently safe and well-taken care of in a foster home. The same cannot be said for the owner’s black Chihuahua, who has also been placed in the care of Multnomah County Animal Services.
A Heartbreaking Tale of Resilience
It is truly heartbreaking that anyone would subject their innocent kitten to such abuse and dye him with hair dye. However, we find solace in the fact that little Ken has survived this ordeal and is now in good hands. Let’s spread the word and share his story of resilience and hope.
