Karine de Souza, a courageous woman from Brazil, is all too familiar with this reality. Living with a rare skin condition called Xeroderma Pigmentosum, she has spent her entire life taking extraordinary measures to protect her skin. Even when indoors, Karine diligently applies SPF100 sunscreen, as she is highly sensitive to UV rays and at a high risk of developing skin cancer.

To treat the sores caused by the sun, Karine has undergone over 130 surgical procedures, including the amputation of her lower lip and a portion of her nose. But her physical struggle is only a part of the battle. Karine also faces strange looks, online and offline verbal abuse, and constant judgement.
Love found its way into Karine’s life when she met her husband Edmilson through social media. Edmilson was deeply moved by Karine’s story and admired her strength. He stood by her side through thick and thin, even embracing Karine’s three children from a previous relationship. This meant the world to Karine.
However, their relationship faced criticism and offensive comments when their photos were posted online. People questioned the authenticity of their love and labeled Karine with derogatory terms. Some even suggested that she must be wealthy and that Edmilson was with her for financial gain. But none of these comments could diminish the love that Karine and Edmilson shared.
