We all love a heartwarming tale of resilience and second chances. Meet Pearl, the “lucky pig” who recently made headlines after escaping from a transport truck and finding a new forever home. This incredible story reminds us of the power of kindness and the importance of caring for all living beings.

A Daring Escape

Pearl’s adventure began when she fell off a transport truck on Route 35 in Columbus, Ohio. While it’s unclear where the truck was heading, there is a possibility that it was heading to a slaughterhouse. In a remarkable stroke of luck, Pearl managed to escape a fate that many of her fellow pigs face.

A Rescue by State Troopers

Thankfully, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers spotted the stranded piglet on the side of the road. Despite a few scratches and road rash, Pearl remained unharmed. These compassionate troopers quickly realized that Pearl deserved a chance at a better life and made the decision to save her.

A Safe Haven

Instead of being taken back to a slaughterhouse, Pearl found herself in the caring hands of the Ross County Humane Society. The shelter staff took Pearl under their wing, ensuring her safety and well-being. While one of the employees expressed a desire to keep Pearl as a pet, her husband’s concerns about a 600lb pig made that idea impractical. Nevertheless, this lucky pig was determined to find her forever home.

Pearl’s New Beginning

Pearl’s journey took another heartwarming turn as news spread of her escape and rescue. Erica Cornwell, a compassionate animal lover, came forward to offer Pearl a loving home. Pearl will be joining a group of other pot-bellied pigs, where she will be safe, loved, and cherished.

“I was excited to come get her and give her a good home and not on someone’s plate,” shared Erica. Pearl’s new owner plans to give her the attention and care she deserves, ensuring that she lives a fulfilling life with her new piggy companions.

A Bright Future

The Ross County Humane Society expressed their joy at the outcome, confirming that Pearl will never become pancetta. Instead, she will be pampered and cared for in her own gated area until she settles in with her pig family. Pearl’s new owner believes that she will become the “alpha pig,” despite her small size, and we can’t wait to see her thrive in her new role.

Jenn Thomas, executive director of the Ross County Humane Society, referred to Pearl as a “fabulous, lucky pig.” We couldn’t agree more!
