In February of 2020, Shannen Doherty disclosed that she was undergoing treatment for cancer at the stage 4 level. There has been a passing of Shannen Doherty, who was most recognized for her appearances in Beverly Hills, 90210, and Charmed. 53 was her age. ET is able to verify.

According to a statement released by Leslie Sloane, the actress’s longtime publicist, “It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the passing of actress, Shannen Doherty,” and ET was informed of this news. “On Saturday, July 13th she lost her battle with cancer after many years of fighting the disease.”

The following is an excerpt from the statement: “The devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend was surrounded by her loved ones as well as her dog, Bowie.” Please respect the family’s request for privacy at this difficult time so that they may mourn in peace.

In the month of June, Doherty made an emotional announcement on her podcast called Let’s Be Clear that she will be starting chemotherapy for her stage 4 breast cancer. This decision was made after the composition of her cancer cells had advanced.

“At first, I believed everything was going well. Doherty expressed her feelings as she grew tearful and stated, “I am having to go back on chemotherapy, and it is really difficult. The idea of going through that all over again has completely destroyed me.” “It is quite challenging. I am completely and utterly shattered by the idea of going through that process once again. Yes, I was aware that I was in stage 4, yes, I was aware that it was a very severe condition, yes, I have made measures to protect my family and clean up a lot of things, but it has completely destroyed me. But when you have to go to the hospital and you have to, you know, be put under [and] a port put in you, it becomes very real in an immensely different manner.”

A little over a week before she passed away, on July 8, the last episode of Let’s Be Clear was shown on television.

During an interview with Entertainment Tonight (ET) in December 2023, the actress of Beverly Hills 90210 discussed the significance of using her podcast to elevate her fight against cancer and to tell her own personal experience.

“The past, the present, the future, hopes, and ambitions are all important aspects to consider. She said, “I tend to get very personal.” What occurred in my three marriages, what happened on Charmed, and what happened on 90210 are all things that I go into detail about. The loss of my father and the impact it had on me are topics that I discuss. It is personal in the most intense way possible. I discuss about my experience with cancer, which is obviously a significant part of the show.

Doherty was notified that she needed to have brain surgery when her cancer returned. This was at the same time that she learned of her then-husband Kurt Iswarienko’s alleged infidelity, and she subsequently filed for divorce. This was one of the challenges that she had to confront. Doherty made a request for spousal assistance from Iswarienko in the month of June, when she disclosed that the residuals from Charmed had been depleted. Despite this, she maintained a positive outlook on her future.

“I’ve loved in the past, and even though it didn’t work out, it was still really beautiful, and I learned a lot from the person and appreciated them,” Doherty further revealed. “Even with the marriage that is now over, there were some great times.”

2015 was the year when the actress first diagnosed with breast cancer. In the year that followed, she disclosed that she had been subjected to a number of rounds of chemotherapy prior to the period of remission that occurred in 2017.

During an appearance with Good Morning America in the year 2020, Doherty disclosed that she had relapsed with her cancer and that it had progressed to stage 4, which indicated that it had migrated further beyond its initial place. The actress from Heathers gave an interview to Entertainment Tonight in 2021, during which she said that she was “doing well” at the time of the interview, but that she was hopeful about the year that was to come.

“If I were dreaming of what would happen in 2022, I think a lot more research and progression as far as finding the cure for cancer is my ultimate, ultimate dream because even though I am thriving and I’m doing well, I still have cancer and you don’t want stage 4, but I have it and so I think in the back of my mind, this constant sort of, ‘OK, what can I do to help bring more awareness, what can I do to help raise money, what can I do to sort of push research for not just myself but for everybody else who is suffering from cancer?’” Doherty divulged the information.

Following that, in June of 2023, the actress broke the devastating news to her family and friends that her cancer had spread to her brain. A post that Doherty made on Instagram revealed that he had stated, “My fear is obvious.”

Following the original diagnosis that she received in 2015, Doherty has recorded many elements of the arduous struggle on social media. She has filmed everything from chemotherapy sessions to chopping off her very long black hair and boldly flaunting a bald head.

The person who originally posted this has either made it private or removed it entirely.

Doherty was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on April 12th, 1971. She started out as a kid performer and eventually obtained tiny parts on the television series Voyagers! and Father Murphy, both of which aired in the 1980s. Her subsequent career included appearances in the film Girls Just Want to Have Fun (1985) and the television series Our House, as well as a recurrent part on the television show Little House on the Prairie.

Doherty made her debut in the dark comedy Heathers in 1988, starring alongside Christian Slater and Winona Ryder. Two years later, she was cast as Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210, which was the role that brought her the most publicity. 90210 ultimately became one of the most successful series of the 1990s and converted the cast of relatively newbies into bonafide stars, despite the fact that its first season had poor ratings. During her time on the show, Doherty earned a reputation for being the cast member who refused to conform to a predetermined image. In 1993, 1994, and 2011, she appeared naked for Playboy. The first time she did so was in 1993, and the second time was in 1994. After leaving 90210 in 1994, Doherty went on to have an appearance in Mallrats, which is considered to be a cult classic.

In the 1998 series Charmed, she made her comeback to primetime television, playing the role of the oldest of three sisters who are witches. She featured with Alyssa Milano and Holly Marie Combs in the roles of the three sisters. 2001 was the year when Doherty left Charmed. Following his departure from the fantasy drama series, Doherty went on to host the first season of the hidden camera program Scare Tactics, make an appearance on the Fox series North Shore, which was canceled after a brief run, and also star in the pilot episode of the comedy sitcom Love Inc. In the year 2006, Doherty started presenting a show called Breaking Up With Shannen Doherty, in which she assisted individuals in ending unhealthy relationships. After just one season, the program was pulled off the air. After that, Doherty had appearances on the American version of the British comedy Bo!, as well as Christmas Caper and Kiss Me Deadly: A Jacob Keane Assignment, all of which were released on television. Not only that, but in 2007, she established her very own production business called No Apologies. The year after that, Doherty returned to the role of Walsh for the spinoff of 90210 that was produced by the CW.

Doherty participated in Dancing With the Stars in 2010, however she was eliminated after just two episodes of the competition. Her father, who had been ill for some time and had passed away later that year, was the reason she participated in the program.

In the course of her romances, Doherty gained a certain amount of notoriety. The turbulent relationship between Doherty and Dean Jay Factor, the heir to the Max Factor beauty brand, came to an end in 1993. Doherty was briefly engaged to Dean Jay Factor. Several months later, after dating for just two weeks, Doherty tied the knot with Ashley Hamilton, who was the son of actor George Hamilton. In 1994, the couple reached a divorce. In the year 2002, Doherty tied the knot once again, this time with Rick Salomon, a professional poker player. Nine months later, that union was declared null and void. The wedding that Doherty had with photographer Iswarienko was featured in the WE television reality program Shannen Says, which was shown in 2011. Doherty allowed cameras to enter her private life for the show. After eleven years of marriage, the actress filed for divorce in April of 2023. The pair had been married for eleven years. In an interview with ET at the time, her representative said that “Divorce is the last thing Shannen wanted.” Furthermore, the statement proceeded by saying, “Unfortunately, she felt that she had no other option left to her.”

Luke Perry, who had been Doherty’s previous co-star on the television show 90210, passed away after having a stroke before the production of the revival. Doherty’s abrupt passing caused her to doubt her own likelihood of survival. In the year 2020, she expressed her feelings to Good Morning America, saying, “It was so strange for me to be diagnosed, and then somebody who appeared to be healthy to go first.” It came as a complete surprise to me, and the least I could do to show my respect for him was to perform that act. Even now, I haven’t accomplished enough.

Although Doherty first chose to keep her battle with cancer hidden from the public eye, she sought assistance from one of her co-stars on the television show 90210. She went on to clarify that Brian Austin Green was the only one within the group of persons who was aware of the situation. “I told [him] in a rather short way. When we were about to begin filming, he would always contact me and tell me, “Listen, no matter what happens, I will always have your back.”

When ET asked Doherty about her battle with cancer in 2018, she candidly discussed it. She admits, “I didn’t think it would happen to me,” and she was right. “The ironic and strange thing is that a year ago, I went to support an event for cancer research, and then I said, ‘I could have cancer.’” Doherty recorded an episode of 90210 in which her character discovered a tumor in her breast, which is yet another odd coincidence. When Doherty was diagnosed with cancer for the first time, she received treatment in the form of chemotherapy and radiation. After receiving the second treatment, she started experiencing hair loss. In an interview with ET at the time, she recounted, “I just remember holding onto huge clumps of my hair in my hands and running to my mom crying.” “And it was just sort of the parting of…you literally, I get the impression that you leave a part of your life behind,” she said. On top of that, Doherty said that cancer does not discriminate. That I am able to manage it with as much grace as is humanly possible and that I am able to assist someone else is the only thing that I hope for. As a result of reading their posts and comments on Instagram, I am aware that I have already done so, and it gives me a sense of satisfaction to know that I have any type of influence on another person. It gives me a sense of satisfaction that they are willing to share their tale with me. Additionally, Doherty disclosed the more profound influence that cancer had on her mental state. My whole life has been altered as a result of it. Due to the fact that it altered my thinking, my relationships, my marriage, and my friendships, I now consider each day to be a very unique one. Basically, it has taught me to appreciate others, which is something I’ve always done, but it’s like a different type of respect.

She proceeded by saying, “I believe I have always known that I am strong.” “But this is a totally different kind of strength and I like this strength a lot better.”
