Baywatch Star Yasmine Bleeth’s Journey to a Quiet Life

Being in the spotlight as a beloved celebrity often comes at a cost. The glitz and glamour can sometimes lead people down the wrong path. This is true for many celebrities, including actors and musicians, who have had to step away from their careers.

Yasmine Bleeth was an icon during the 90s. Her role as Caroline Holden in the immensely popular series Baywatch catapulted her to stardom. Born in 1968 in New York, Bleeth began her journey to fame at just 10 months old, appearing in a commercial for Johnson & Johnson’s No More Tears baby shampoo.

Even at a young age, Bleeth’s stunning beauty attracted attention. World-renowned fashion photographer Francesco Scavullo was enchanted by her and her mother, Carina, whom he considered “one of the most beautiful women in the world.” He included their photos in his famous book, Scavullo Women.

Everyone around Bleeth knew that she was destined for greatness. She had already found success in commercials as a child, and it was only a matter of time before she made her mark on television. Before her breakthrough in Baywatch, Bleeth appeared in the film Hey Babe! and the daytime soap opera Ryan’s Hope.

However, tragedy struck when Bleeth’s mother was diagnosed with inflammatory breast cancer and passed away at the age of 47, just months after the series was canceled. Devastated by her loss, Bleeth withdrew from the spotlight and declined numerous movie offers.

During the 90s, Bleeth made guest appearances on Baywatch, which led to her becoming a regular cast member for four seasons. In 1995, People Magazine recognized her as one of the “50 Most Beautiful People.”

From 1998 to 2000, Bleeth took on the role of the sexy inspector Caitlin Cross on the TV series Nash Bridges. However, her personal life was tumultuous during this time. After getting engaged to actor Richard Grieco, their relationship fell apart, and Bleeth turned to substances to cope with her emotions. She also developed an obsession with shopping.

“I’d spend hours plucking my eyebrows, putting on tanning cream, doing a facial. But mostly, I’d shop on the internet. I’d order from luxury stores, spending thousands of dollars in one night. Shopping became my instant gratification,” Bleeth revealed in an interview with Glamour magazine in 2003.

Isolated from her friends and consumed by her addictions, Bleeth’s behavior became increasingly alarming. While filming, she battled to stay sober, but her physical appearance hinted that something wasn’t right. Her weight drastically dropped, and her head became swollen.

Looking back on that period, Bleeth admitted the severity of her situation. A nose infection posed a life-threatening risk. “The doctor put me on antibiotics and said, ‘Another couple of months with this infection and it could have gone to your brain and killed you,’” she explained.

After collapsing on set and being arrested for cocaine possession, Bleeth knew she had to make a change. She decided to check into rehab, where she found love in her future husband, Paul Cerrito.

“They say you shouldn’t get into any relationship in the first year of sobriety — especially with someone in the program. But Paul and I fell in love immediately,” Bleeth shared in her interview with Glamour Magazine.

Today, Yasmine Bleeth leads a quiet life alongside her husband, Paul. They prefer to stay away from the limelight. Now 54 years old, she retired from acting in 2003. Recent sightings of Bleeth show a different image from her former days. She has gained weight and embraces the tranquility of a more private lifestyle.
