Introducing Mitzi, an adorable cat in search of her perfect match: a forever home. Her journey has been filled with ups and downs, as she was returned to the shelter four times. But don’t let that fool you, Mitzi’s story is one of resilience and hope.

Mitzi arrived at Woodside Animal Sanctuary in Plymouth, Devon, when she was 8 years old. She was a stray cat, and at the time, she weighed a whopping 17 pounds. The caretakers suspected that many people were feeding her, as she had a special talent for winning hearts. “She didn’t belong to anyone, yet she was nourished by everyone,” said shelter manager Helen Lecointe.

As Mitzi settled into the shelter, she grew fond of the staff and felt safe in their care. In an attempt to find her a forever home, the sanctuary shared a photo of her on Facebook with the caption: “Mitzi, the fattest cat we have ever had?” The photo went viral, and soon newspapers across the country dubbed her “Britain’s fattest stray cat.” People from all over the world wanted to adopt Mitzi.

However, Woodside Animal Sanctuary was determined to find a local adopter for Mitzi, worried that she might feel overwhelmed if she had to travel too far. Finally, a local woman stepped forward and volunteered to foster Mitzi. It seemed like the perfect match.

Sadly, the woman’s circumstances changed, and she could no longer care for Mitzi. Once again, Mitzi found herself back at the shelter, eagerly waiting for someone to give her a loving home. This had never happened before, and even shelter manager Helen Lecointe admitted that “a cat being returned this many times is really rare.”

Mitzi’s journey took another turn when she was adopted by her third owner, someone she truly adored. With their help, Mitzi began to shed some pounds, going from 17 to 11 pounds. However, fate had other plans, as her owner fell ill and was unable to keep her. Once again, Mitzi was left without a home.

But the universe works in mysterious ways, as Mitzi’s luck turned around. Last month, one of her third owner’s friends happily adopted her. “We had proposals from the US, Sweden, and the Middle East,” Lecointe revealed. However, it was a change in circumstances that allowed Mitzi to finally find her forever home. Her new adopter had initially wanted to take her in but couldn’t due to rental property restrictions. Fortunately, that obstacle was now out of the way, and Mitzi could finally find the loving home she always deserved.

Mitzi’s journey has been filled with hardships, but now she has found a place she can call her own. This lovable feline is finally getting the happy ending she deserves. “She’s such a sweet cat,” Lecointe said. “We truly hope she has found her happily ever after.”
