In a recent turn of events, Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband and former manager, Brandon Blackstock, has responded to the lawsuit she filed against him. Clarkson had claimed in her suit that she deserved more than the $2.6 million that a labor commissioner had ruled Blackstock owed her for exceeding his authority as her manager. However, Blackstock has requested the dismissal of Clarkson’s lawsuit, denying all the allegations raised against him.

The legal battle between Clarkson and Blackstock began amid their divorce proceedings in 2020. It escalated when Starstruck Management, Blackstock’s management firm, sued Clarkson for unpaid commissions. In response, Clarkson filed documents accusing Blackstock, Starstruck, and his associates of violating labor laws. The couple finalized their divorce in 2022, with Clarkson being ordered to make a one-time payment to Blackstock and monthly child support.

The labor commissioner’s ruling in November 2023 determined that Blackstock and Starstruck Management had violated California’s Talent Agencies Act. The act states that managers cannot secure employment for artists without the involvement of a licensed agent. Blackstock and his team filed an appeal in December of that year.

Blackstock’s recent filing argues that Clarkson’s lawsuit should be dismissed because the commissioner’s ruling is binding on her. The filing also contends that the alleged illegal earnings have already been paid into Clarkson and Blackstock’s shared assets. Furthermore, it argues that if Clarkson were to be awarded additional damages, they should be reduced accordingly.

It remains to be seen how the court will proceed with the ongoing legal dispute between Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock. However, one thing is clear—this case has taken a complex and contentious turn.
