Losing a beloved pet can be a heartbreaking experience. When Elizabeth Burkes from Corpus Christi, Texas couldn’t find her 5-year-old sulcata tortoise, Marmalade, she turned to her community for help. Little did she know that the amazing power of unity would bring Marmalade back home.

Tortoises aren’t known for their swift travels, but Marmalade managed to escape through a hole under his fence, leaving Elizabeth worried. She searched high and low, but Marmalade was nowhere to be found.

In her quest to find her beloved pet, Elizabeth reached out to a local Facebook group called Rescues United 361 Network, asking for assistance. Thankfully, her plea didn’t go unheard. A local woman posted in the group that she had found a tortoise on the highway. Worried for its safety, her mom blocked traffic while someone else moved the tortoise.

It was a moment of joy for Elizabeth when she realized that the found tortoise was none other than her Marmalade. She wasted no time in contacting the woman and finally reuniting with her missing pet.

Sulcata tortoises, like Marmalade, have a knack for escaping, and Elizabeth understands the importance of taking extra precautions. To ensure that Marmalade stays safe at home, she plans to bury chicken wire or some kind of wiring underneath the fence.

In a surprising twist, Elizabeth also discovered that Marmalade is a male tortoise, not a female as she had previously thought. It just goes to show that even after years of having a pet, there can still be surprises in store.

Interestingly, this isn’t the only happy ending for a missing tortoise this week. Another 100-year-old tortoise was recently reunited with its family after being rescued from a canal. These heartwarming stories remind us of the incredible bond we share with our animal companions.

We’re overjoyed that Marmalade is back home safe and sound, thanks to the combined efforts of the community. If you have a soft spot for animals, please share this heartwarming story. Let’s spread the love!
