Caring for a pet is a big responsibility. It requires time, effort, and financial resources. Sometimes, life takes unexpected turns and individuals find themselves unable to provide the care their furry friends need. This was the case for two cats recently found abandoned at Brother Wolf Animal Rescue in Asheville, North Carolina. But what makes this story even more heart-wrenching is the note left behind by their owner, expressing her love for them and her difficult circumstances.

The handwritten note read, “My name is Baby, my mom can’t take care of me anymore. Please find me and my sister our next home.”

Upon finding the cats and reading the note, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue was deeply moved. They understood the challenges their owner must have been facing. In a heartfelt response, they wrote, “To the person who left them… They are safe with us, and thank you for trusting us with your cats you so clearly loved. We understand you didn’t have another choice, and we hope you are okay.” The shelter also noticed that the owner had placed the kennel in the shade, indicating her concern for the cats’ wellbeing.

Brother Wolf Animal Rescue’s compassionate response garnered praise from their followers. One Facebook commenter remarked, “Thank you for being kind in your remarks to the person who left the cats with you. Too often people say how could anyone leave their pets like this. But this is the best thing for the pets and for the people too.”

Cases of pet abandonment are unfortunately common in animal shelters. Many of these stories are shocking and even cruel. However, the response from Brother Wolf Animal Rescue and organizations like LifeLine Animal Project in Atlanta, Georgia, shows the understanding and empathy they have for people struggling with their pet’s care. LifeLine Animal Project recently went viral with a similar story of a dog abandoned outside their facility. They sent an open letter to the owner, expressing their love for the dog and their commitment to finding it a new home.

While it is heartbreaking that this woman could no longer care for her two cats, it is commendable that she made the difficult decision to entrust them to the care of a shelter. With the support and love they receive, hopefully, these cats will find their forever homes soon. Let’s spread this story of compassion and understanding by sharing it with others.
