When the Springdale School District celebrated the Class of 2022, they made a special tribute to four remarkable individuals. Carl Stults, Bobby Burke, Charles Leroy Moon, and Bob Self, affectionately known as the “super seniors,” were honored alongside the graduating class. These four men, who would have graduated in 1956, had chosen a different path by joining the military.

Honoring the Super Seniors

Back in their senior year, these men did not receive their diplomas from Springdale High School. However, during the ceremony, the district rectified this oversight by awarding them honorary diplomas. It was a surprise for the graduating class, and it carried an important lesson.

During the ceremony, Springdale Superintendent Jared Cleveland read letters from Governor Asa Hutchinson and U.S. Representative Steve Womack. The letters praised these veterans for their service during the Korean conflict and beyond. They commended their selflessness and emphasized that answering the call of duty exemplifies the true spirit of America.

In addition, educators took the time to highlight the accomplishments of each veteran since they joined the Air Force in 1956. These four men had dedicated their lives to serving their country, and the district recognized their unwavering commitment.

Despite the passing of 66 years, the wait for their diplomas from their alma mater was finally over. It was a well-deserved recognition for their sacrifice and dedication.

To Carl Stults, Bobby Burke, Charles Leroy Moon, and Bob Self – congratulations on receiving your honorary diplomas! We appreciate your service and the sacrifices you made for our country. It is because of individuals like you that we are privileged to live in the wonderful country we call home. Please join us in celebrating these incredible men and thanking them for their unwavering commitment.
