Meet Roo, an adorable 8-week old Labrador mix with a unique feature – she has six legs! Given the nickname “Kangaroo” for her hopping style, Roo walks by leaning on her front arms while lifting her bottom in the air. While her way of getting around might be unconventional, it only adds to her charm.

Roo’s story began when she was discovered online by a breeder. Thankfully, Lauren Salmon’s 15-year-old son stumbled upon the post and instantly felt a connection. Realizing that Roo needed a loving home, Lauren and her family wasted no time in making the decision to adopt. They understood that Roo’s deformity meant that the breeder might choose to euthanize her if an owner wasn’t found soon.

When the day finally came to bring Roo home, she excitedly jumped out of her cage and hopped up on her back legs to greet her new family. Lauren and her son Luke could see the boundless energy within Roo, despite her minor flaw. “She’s full of life and brings a sense of peace to our home,” says Lauren. “Dogs like Roo are truly one-of-a-kind.”

Luke and Roo have formed a special bond, understanding what it’s like to feel different. Luke himself experiences challenges due to psoriasis, a skin disorder that causes red spots. This loving teen now has a best friend in Roo, who also now shares her home with a new doggy brother, two cats, and two rabbits.

Lauren is working alongside Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick to explore options for improving Roo’s mobility. While her extra legs make walking a bit of a challenge, Roo remains comfortable and content. With the support of her devoted family, she continues to thrive.
