Baby mocked for having white hair – years later, he looks perfectly happy and healthy

Patricia Williams, like many proud mothers, loved taking newborn pictures of her children. However, when she shared photos of her son Redd with others, she was met with a hurtful surprise.

In 2012, Patricia’s son was born with white hair. But it wasn’t until he was two months old that she noticed some unique qualities about him. Redd’s eyes would move side to side, which led Patricia’s husband Dale to research the cause. They discovered that this was a common symptom associated with albinism.

Having never heard of albinism before, Patricia was skeptical. However, as Redd exhibited other markers such as pale skin, white hair, and tracking eyes, they sought the help of optometrists and genetic specialists. The diagnosis was confirmed: Redd had Oculocutaneous Albinism Type one (OCA1), a condition that affects just 1 in 17,000 people globally.

Patricia remembers the excitement the hospital staff had when Redd was born, fascinated by his unique appearance. But as a family with fair hair, they didn’t think much of it initially. It was only after a month of noticing Redd’s sparkling white hair and his blue eyes that they realized it was more than just a passing trait.

Redd and Rockwell

In February 2018, Redd’s little brother Rockwell was born with the same condition. Unfortunately, his newborn images were stolen and turned into cruel memes by heartless individuals on social media. Redd had also experienced bullying at school due to his appearance, which prompted his older brother Gage to become protective.

Determined to make a difference, Patricia and Dale decided to become advocates for raising awareness about albinism. Understanding that fighting against the circulation of their son’s meme was futile, they decided to focus their efforts on educating others about the condition. Unbeknownst to many, albinism is often misunderstood due to limited representation in movies and media.

Redd underwent eye surgery to correct his strabismus and transitioned from a private school for blind children to a public one. This decision proved to be a game-changer for Redd, as it allowed him to thrive and integrate into a more inclusive environment.

Now that Redd is older, his differences are becoming less noticeable to his friends. They understand that he might need a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen when playing outside, but other than that, Redd can do everything any other child can. And just like Redd, Rockwell is also flourishing.

On “Western Day” at Rockwell’s school, a video clip of him garnered a lot of love and appreciation on social media. People found him “cute” and “adorable.” Patricia took this opportunity to dispel the misconception that people with albinism have red eyes. In reality, their eyes tend to be a light blue due to the lack of pigment.

Today, Redd and Rockwell are thriving and living their best lives. This heartwarming story of resilience and acceptance serves as an inspiration to us all.

We are overjoyed for this incredible family. Share this heartwarming story with your friends on Facebook, as it will surely leave a lasting impression.
