The Unidentified Furball revealed

To the dock worker’s surprise, the furball turned out to be a wild caracal. Although resembling a lynx in appearance, caracals are not closely related. These majestic creatures can grow up to 65 centimeters long and weigh around 20 kilograms. Normally found south of the Sahara Desert, caracals rarely make appearances in suburban areas. But this one had somehow ended up in the bustling port.

Quick Rescue to the Rescue

In a state of panic, the dock worker sought immediate help. Arnold Slabbert, a dedicated wildlife rescuer in the region, swiftly arrived on the scene. Although accustomed to rescuing various animals in distress, rescuing a caracal was new territory for him. The port’s constant activity and numerous containers made it an unlikely place for a caracal to seek refuge.

Despite the challenges, Slabbert skillfully captured the caracal and enclosed her in a cage. The rescue operation required a fair amount of maneuvering, but the caracal was safely secured.

Within less than half an hour, the caracal was ready to return to her natural habitat. Slabbert transported her to the protected lands of Port of Ngqura where she could roam freely amidst lush vegetation. The gentle creature, though initially nervous and confused, let out an ecstatic screech, perhaps expressing gratitude to her rescuers.
