Facebook users have recently come across a mysterious figure in a black-and-white photograph from the 1940s. To their astonishment, this man appears to be using a device far too advanced for its time.

The photograph was taken in 1943 in Reykjavík, Iceland, during World War II. The man stands out from the deployed American soldiers as he is not wearing army fatigues. Instead, he is dressed in a lightly colored trench coat and is holding his hand close to his ear, resembling a modern-day cellphone user.

Social media quickly jumped on this intriguing discovery, with many suggesting that the man must be a time traveler. The photo, initially posted on the Icelandic Facebook group Gamlar ljósmyndir in 2016, has sparked interest and debate ever since.

To quote the caption by user Kristjan Hoffmann in 2016, “One thing that draws attention to this beautiful picture is that above the window, in the corner in the middle of the picture, a man is leaning and is on a cellphone.” Hoffmann is convinced that the man’s behavior, including his different attire and posture, is reminiscent of how we act today.

Karolina Petursdottir, another user, even drew a resemblance to “Dr. Who.” This intriguing discovery has gone beyond a niche old photo group and was featured in a conspiracy theory video on YouTube titled “10 REAL Cases of Time Travel That Cannot Be Explained.”

Interestingly, no one in the Facebook group proposed the theory that the man could be a spy for the Axis powers. Instead, more levelheaded members suggested that he may have been checking his watch. Others argued that he was simply using a tobacco pipe and happened to scratch his ear while the photo was being taken.

The discovery of this enigmatic figure has certainly sparked the imagination of Facebook users. Whether he is a time traveler, a spy, or simply an innocent bystander, the photograph continues to captivate and leave us with more questions than answers.
