Canadian singer Céline Dion recently opened up about her health struggles in a heartfelt video shared on social media. In the video, the 54-year-old star revealed that she has been diagnosed with a rare and incurable neurological condition called Stiff Person Syndrome. This condition has not only forced her to cancel upcoming concert dates but also affected various aspects of her daily life, including her ability to sing.
“I’ve been dealing with health problems for a long time, and it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and talk about what I’ve been going through,” Dion shared in the caption of her post. “It hurts me to tell you that I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February.”
Stiff Person Syndrome is a condition that affects the central nervous system. According to the Stiff Person Syndrome Foundation, it can cause debilitating symptoms such as hyper-rigidity, chronic pain, anxiety, and muscle spasms that can be so severe they may dislocate joints and even break bones.
Dion revealed that these spasms have a significant impact on her daily life, sometimes making it difficult for her to walk and preventing her from using her vocal cords to sing the way she’s used to. However, she emphasized that she has a dedicated team of doctors working with her to help her on her journey towards recovery.
In her video, Dion expressed her gratitude for the support she has received, especially from her three sons. She made it clear that she is not giving up on her passion for music, stating, “All I know is singing. It’s what I’ve done all my life, and it’s what I love to do the most.”
While she is currently focused on her health and rebuilding her strength with the help of her sports medicine therapist, Dion assured her fans that she misses them dearly and hopes to be back on stage performing for them soon. She also thanked her fans for their unwavering loyalty and the love and support they have shown her on social media.
