Leaving a dog in a hot car can be dangerous and even deadly. Dogs are vulnerable to heat stroke, and too many innocent pets have lost their lives due to this preventable tragedy. Luckily, one lucky puppy’s story had a different ending – he found a loving forever home with the heroes who saved him.

A concerned citizen in East Haven, Connecticut made a life-saving call to the authorities when they discovered a 6-month-old puppy locked inside an overheating car near the beach. The temperature inside the vehicle was a scorching 122 degrees! The situation was dire, but thanks to the quick response from the East Haven Fire Department, a crisis was averted.

The story touched the heart of East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora. After the puppy received necessary care and attention at the local animal shelter, he paid a visit to Town Hall, where the mayor fell head over heels for the adorable pup. The suggestion surfaced that the town adopt him as a mascot, but ultimately, it was decided that the puppy should have a permanent home with the very people who rescued him – the fire department.

Now, this lucky pup has a new title – “Station Support Dog” – and a new life at the fire department headquarters. His name is Riggs, chosen through a naming contest held by the town. Riggs has a friendly and calm temperament, making him the perfect addition to the team. Not only will he provide support for the fire department on duty, but he will also serve as an ambassador during public education and community events.

Mayor Joseph A. Carfora expressed his excitement about Riggs joining the team: “He is settling into his new role, and we look forward to witnessing the positive impact he will have on the well-being of the firefighters and the broader community.”

It is heartbreaking to think that Riggs was left in such a hot car, but we are grateful that he now has a bright future ahead. His story reminds us of the importance of responsible pet ownership and the incredible bond between humans and animals. Let us share this inspiring news and spread the word about the heroic firefighters and their adorable new companion!
