The musician was arrested on DWI charges on June 18 after night with friends at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor

Justin Timberlake, the popular singer, found himself in a very unexpected situation last Tuesday. The 43-year-old star, known for his hit song “Selfish,” was arrested on DWI charges after spending an evening with friends at the American Hotel in Sag Harbor.

According to a source, Justin was extremely shaken after his arrest. He spent the night in custody, visibly distressed, and couldn’t get any sleep. “He was freaking out and stayed up all night when he was in custody,” the source revealed. “He’s insisting he only had one drink and it wasn’t some wild night out.”

Justin’s attorney has yet to comment on the incident. However, Justin’s arrest report, which PEOPLE managed to obtain, notes that he told the arresting officer, “I had one martini and I followed my friends home.”

Despite this unfortunate event, it looks like Justin is planning to continue his tour as scheduled. “It’s business as usual for him,” the source shared. “The tour is continuing as planned.”

This incident took place during a brief break in Timberlake’s Forget Tomorrow World Tour. He has upcoming performances in Chicago on June 21 and June 22, followed by shows in New York City on June 25 and June 26. The tour will continue through December.

Justin faces one count of driving while intoxicated, plus citations for running a stop sign and failure to stay in lane after leaving the American Hotel. The arrest report also mentioned that Justin’s eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy.

A second source mentioned to PEOPLE that Justin was simply “hanging out with friends” that night. However, trouble arose when he refused to take a chemical test multiple times, leading to his stay overnight at the Sag Harbor Police Headquarters. He was released the following morning.

Justin’s court hearing is scheduled for July 26, coinciding with a scheduled performance at the Tauron Arena in Kraków, Poland, as part of his tour.

His attorney, Edward Burke Jr., stated: “Mr. Burke looks forward to vigorously defending Mr. Timberlake against these allegations. He will have a lot to say at the appropriate time. He is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office.”
