Diesel, a lovable hybrid of a St. Bernard and a Newfoundland, captured the hearts of many with his size and cuteness. However, his story took a dark turn when his owners became overwhelmed by his “HUGE, wild” behavior and decided to chain him outside their frigid Yukon house. Little did Diesel know, this would mark the beginning of a life filled with loneliness and suffering.

After five long years, rescuers stumbled upon Diesel, left to rot in freezing temperatures. He had resorted to keeping his paws off the snow in an attempt to stay warm. His doghouse was far too small, depriving him of comfort, and he had no access to water. Traces of dried blood on his fur served as a painful reminder of the cruelty he endured. To make matters worse, his cruel owner threatened to harm Diesel if the rescuers didn’t take him away.

Despite enduring such harsh conditions, Diesel’s spirit remained unbroken. Rescuers were amazed by his friendly nature once they examined him. It became clear that Diesel had suffered greatly, with arthritis, a damaged jaw, missing teeth, and a split tongue, likely from an encounter with a wild animal. His fur was matted, and he suffered from various illnesses, causing a foul smell.

Thankfully, Diesel became the first beneficiary of the “Freezing Dogs Freedom Train” initiative, an initiative run by the compassionate Animal Advocate organization. After receiving the necessary medical treatment, Diesel embarked on a behavioral rehabilitation program. A loving foster family in Vancouver welcomed him with open arms.

Today, Diesel has come a long way from his daunting past and has become a cherished member of his foster family. Inspired by Diesel’s incredible transformation, his new family is dedicated to raising awareness and support for the release of other dogs who remain chained up in rural areas of the United States.
