Chef Joey Fecci tragically passed away just a few miles short of completing a Nashville half-marathon on a fateful Saturday in April. At just 26 years of age, his sudden departure has left an indelible mark on those who knew him.

During the St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Series Nashville Marathon, Fecci required urgent medical attention and was found unresponsive in Shelby Park, as reported by various local news outlets. Despite the immediate response from the event’s medical team and his subsequent rush to the hospital, Fecci could not be saved.

“We appreciate the medical personnel who worked swiftly to assist the participant,” said a statement by the Rock ‘n’ Roll Running Series. They extended their deepest sympathies to Fecci’s family and friends, promising ongoing support during this incredibly tough period.

In a heartfelt statement, Fecci’s family shared their profound grief, remembering him as a source of inspiration, positivity, and a treasured son, brother, boyfriend, and friend. His absence leaves a void in a family that loved him dearly.

Nashville police have stated that Fecci’s untimely demise was due to natural causes and have decided not to pursue any further investigation.

Fecci’s journey in the culinary world began in his hometown of Somers, New York, at just 15, where he started as a busboy, pizza chef, and eventually explored more complex roles in the culinary arena. His passion led him to The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Throughout his career, Fecci had the opportunity to work alongside renowned chefs and at prestigious restaurants, earning a well-respected place in the culinary world.

His career saw him interning at Charlie Palmer’s Michelin-starred Aureole in Las Vegas, working at Michelin-starred Spiaggia in Chicago, and serving as chef de partie at Per Se in New York City. Fecci’s talents were fully recognized when he joined the Yolan in Nashville, quickly rising from head sous chef to chef de cuisine.

Following Fecci’s passing, tributes poured in from those within the culinary community, including Top Chef winner Joe Flamm, who expressed his grief and gratitude for having worked alongside such a passionate and talented chef.
