It turns out that the late Prince Philip had a not-so-kind nickname for the Duchess of Sussex. According to a royal expert, he referred to Meghan Markle as the “Duchess of Windsor”, drawing parallels between her and Wallis Simpson.

For those who may not be familiar, Wallis Simpson was an American divorcée who became the Duchess of Windsor. She caused quite a stir when King Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry her in 1936. Back then, royals were not allowed to marry divorced individuals.

During their years together, Wallis and Edward attracted a lot of attention and even visited Nazi Germany, where they infamously gave the Nazi salute while meeting Adolf Hitler. Prince Philip saw similarities between them and Meghan and Prince Harry.

Ingrid Seward, a royal biographer, revealed during an interview that Prince Philip, known for his astute judgment of character, couldn’t help but notice the resemblances. He used the nickname “DOW”, short for Duchess of Windsor, when referring to Meghan.

While Prince Philip saw Meghan as potentially disruptive, Queen Elizabeth II had “high hopes” for her. This difference in perspective regarding Meghan’s role and influence may have caused some tension within the royal family.

Since stepping back from their royal duties and moving to California, Meghan and Harry have kept a low profile. While Harry plans to visit the UK for the Invictus Games, Meghan is expected to stay in the US to avoid controversy and ensure her safety and peace.

It’s clear that Meghan is prioritizing her well-being and privacy amid the constant scrutiny she faces.
